How to make a gorgeous grilled cheese sandwich
Gloriously grilled cheese sandwiches are yours with these easy steps.
Generously butter two slices of bread to edges. Leave bottom sides unbuttered, but for optional flavours, lightly spread with mustard, apricot jam or red pepper jelly.
With buttered-side down, place 1/4-in. (5 mm) layer of sliced or shredded meltable cheese on top, such as cheddar, brie or mozzarella.
Set in a non-stick frypan. Cover with second bread slice, buttered-side up.
Turn to medium heat, adjusting heat so cheese begins melting before bread browns too quickly. Press down lightly with spatula to grill evenly. When at desired brownness, flip sandwich.
Grill the second side. Transfer to chopping board. Let sandwich rest briefly before slicing.
